I’m Dr. Barbara Robles-Ramamurthy, a Latina psychiatrist, mother, and health equity expert based in San Antonio, Texas. As both a physician and a mother, I’ve seen firsthand how our systems often devalue humanity—placing productivity over people, profit over community, and punishment over compassion. This disconnect not only impacts organizations but also reaches into our families and everyday lives.

Many parents and leaders with incredible wisdom and potential find themselves dismissed, doubted, or pushed aside. Their voices—rooted in compassion and equity—are exactly what our families and communities need most.

I’ve lived this too. For years, I worked in academic institutions, community clinics, and youth correctional settings, determined to shift systems from within. But I realized that even when I made a difference on the ground, the larger structures were designed to keep power and decision-making in the hands of profit- and punishment-focused leaders.
